Leadership Book

A recent book recommendation for technology leaders of mine was featured on cio.com. My justification for the book recommendation was shortened in the final print, but I felt it was useful to highlight a bit more of my motivation for recommending this book from Deepak Chopra:

The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success” by Deepak Chopra

  • This book was one of my first spiritual books that I read, and I have re-read it many many times since. For those who know me, I don’t re-read books, and I don’t rewatch movies. But this book is different.
  • There are many leadership books out there. Books on how to work efficiently, run 1:1s, or drive higher business margins. What we, as leaders, often forget, is that we are people too. And our teams are made up of people. We need to approach leadership from that angle. Bringing people back into the center. That has to do with creating an environment where people are fulfilled, where they enjoy the relationships they have with each other, and where empathy and gratitude are practiced.
  • I would encourage every leader to get started on their own spiritual journey if they haven’t done so yet. Whatever that means for them; reflect, meditate, practice gratitude, or simply, live a full life. That doesn’t mean don’t work hard. On the contrary. Find fulfillment in what you do. Work from a place of excitement, intention, and “pure potentiality” (as Chopra calls it in his book).
  • The door to success is a holistic approach that considers one’s own spiritual awareness, being aligned with the laws of nature, and understanding what personal fulfillment means to us.
